After five years of blood, sweat and tears, it has finally culminated to this: I’m launching my first cosplay photography book, Geekology 101.

Where: National Book Store Greenlanes @ Greenhills Shopping Center
When: October 20, 2012

4PM (registration starts as early as 3PM).. and it’s free!

It would be hosted by Jinri Park, and of course my covergirl Alodia Gosiengfiao would be there as well.

If you’re game enough to cosplay as any character, get a chance to win a camera courtesy of Canon Digital Cameras - Philippines, and bags, tripods courtesy of Rollei and Phottix

All my book royalties would be donated to charity. This time, it would benefit Canon’s Print for Smiles, which funds Operation Smile.

The book retails for P 345.00.

More than just a book, this is also our small way of giving back to the community and to everybody who have supported us in this pop culture craziness over the years.

Photographer Dina Goldstein’s series “Fallen Princesses“ has actually been around since 2009 but I had never posted the photographs as a complete set before. The project looks at Disney fairy tale princesses and their harshly realistic modern day lifestyles. Seems not everybody lives happily ever after. This project has won several awards, been published internationally in magazines, analyzed by experts in the field of Fairytale literature and studied in High schools and Universities.

Personally I’m not sure whether this could still be classified in cosplay, since the collaboration work is quite extensive from all those involved. I would thank fellow Canon Brand Ambassador Edwin Martinez for providing a stunning stars / “outer space” background image. It’s something out of my repertoire, so I called in for his help on this one.

It is a photo-manipulation, but of a person cosplaying as Dark Phoenix.. so I’m not really sure where to put this.

Asides from the things mentioned done in CG, the rest of the elements were done through photography: from the fire, wings, sash, emblem, down to the dust coming out from the Earth.

At the end of the day, people can call it whatever they want… as for us, we just want to make an image of Dark Phoenix. And for those who would comment its too much PS, you guys have the gift for stating the obvious.

Edit: We would be posting how this was done when we finish working on the 2nd study.

What exactly is it?

It’s a collection of pictures of girls, which, had you stumbled upon them on the Internet (or had Googled precisely for), would surely be kept in a secret folder in your computer, lest you want an earful from your missus or girlfriend. The girls here are cute, innocent-looking, sexy, playful, and inviting. Their girl-next-door appeal is so irresistible that you won’t really mind finding out that they are models bound for immediate stardom and that this book is their ingenious way of baring a more personal side for their fans to ogle.

Sadly though, these girls are usually Japanese, thus destroying the fantasy of the so-pretty-yet-so-normal girl who could be living right next door. For us, they have remained mere downloads, but they have never been familiar faces.

Well, not until now.

This was a dream cosplay shoot for me. I mean, Phoenix was a character I’ve been itching to pull off a cosplay shoot on. I’ve attempted Phoenix several times with a lot of learnings in the process instead of a final shot. But we kept at it, believing that one of these days we would be able to do justice to the character. After more than a year of researching, and imagineering… I hope this new attempt of ours would also ignite your imagination.

This is the toughest cosplay shoot we have done to date in terms of effort and time.

Patience was the key to getting the right pieces together.
